"Golf for the Fun of It" Program at MetroWest

The “Golf for the Fun of It” program, developed by Meadowbrook Golf, is coming to MetroWest Golf Club in Orlando. The program is tailored for people of all ages looking to learn the game of golf, and best of all, its free.

There is no catch.

Sponsored by Callaway Golf and Golfweek Magazine, the program takes place in six consecutive weeks.

Participants get free range balls, free instruction and free club rental throughout the duration of the program.

"New players, have many barriers to enter the game of golf," MetroWest general manager Michael Pryor said. "They feel embarrassed, they don't have the knowledge or it's too expensive. What we're trying to do is break those barriers down.”

Upon graduation — assuming a person makes it to at least four of the six lessons — participants receive a dozen Callaway golf balls, golf course discounts, and can continue to borrow clubs for up to 30 days after the program ends.

Every lesson starts with some historical and textbook-type information about the game before the group heads out to the driving range. MetroWest doesn't make any money on the program. But people who learn the game on site would be more likely to come back and play there in the future.

"There is no catch. I'm not going to tell you that you have to come back here and play a dozen times, that's not the deal," Pryor said. "The big things with this program are that it's free and it's fun. It's learning a game that you can spend the rest of your life playing with your family, friends or business associates."
